A commemoration ceremony to pay tribute to the Naval forces personnel who lost their lives during the war was held in line with the National War Heroes Day Celebrations at the War Hero Monument in Welisara today (May 19).
The event took place under the patronage of Navy Commander Vice Admiral Piyal de Silva who offered floral tributes this morning. A two-minutes silence was also observed.
Meanwhile, the National War Heroes Day Celebrations will be held at the War Heroes Memorial at the Parliament grounds in Battaramulla this afternoon.
President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will preside at the event.
