Navy personnel recovered 451kg of Beedi leaves and 5,300 vials of snuff powder from the seas off Talaimannar during the weekend, Navy said.
The seizure was made when Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command had spotted 11 sacks floating across the seas during a sea patrol.
Among the 11 sacks, four contained beedi leaves weighing 451 kilos while 5,300 vials of snuff powder were recovered from seven other sacks.
A dinghy believed to have been abandoned by the suspects who are suspected to have fled the area was also seized by the Navy.
The seized items were handed over to the Jaffna Customs for further investigations.
