During a special search conducted in Mullivaikkal, Mullaitivu yesterday,the Navy managed to recover an assortment of explosive items from a private development site, Navy said.
Accordingly, the Eastern Naval Command managed to find these explosive items among rubbles at a development site in Mullivaikkal. It is suspected that these items had been left behind by the terrorists during the Humanitarian Operation.
Among the recovered explosives were; about 45kg of TNT (in 03 plastic boxes), approximately 05kg of C4, seven 81mm mortars, 15 unidentified fuses, 118 expelling chargers, 01 claymore mine, a part of an unidentified bomb (approximately 08kg in weight) and 01 electric detonator.
The explosives were handed over to the Mullaitivu Police for onward investigation and the Police will be conducting further search to check if more explosive items are available at the site.
