The Navy rescued an Indian trawler with three Indian fishermen in distress within Sri Lankan waters, off Analativu on Friday. They had been drifting due to shortage of fuel and a technical defect in their fishing trawler, when they were spotted by an SLN craft on routine patrol. The rescued Indian fishermen and their defective fishing trawler were towed to Karainagar Naval Base to render repair assistance. On completion of the repairs, the trawler was escorted to the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) on September 21. The rescued fishermen were provided with food and refreshments during their stay in the navy base as they were found exhausted due to the ordeal of drifting in rough seas. Sri Lanka Navy provides assistance to Indian fishermen on humanitarian grounds when they are found in distress in Sri Lankan waters.
