NCM: All eyes on TNA's decision

News

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has now emerged as the key player whose decision regarding the No-Confidence Motion (NCM) against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will likely decide its fate in Parliament tomorrow (4).

The TNA has 16 seats in Parliament and given that the United National Party (UNP) and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) are pulling in different directions regarding the vote, the TNA's position seems poised to be the definitive factor on whether the NCM will be passed or defeated tomorrow.

The SLFP's Parliamentary Group unanimously decided yesterday to request the PM to step down. This decision was conveyed to Premier Wickremesinghe today, but it has been rejected by the UNP.

Opposition Leader and TNA Parliamentary Group Leader R. Sampanthan met President Maithripala Sirisena this afternoon and is reported to have told the President that the alliance's final decision on the NCM will be taken tonight.
