NCM Debate: Arjuna Mahendran in the spotlight

Joint Opposition (JO) Leader Dinesh Gunawardena and Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella today gave differing views regarding the appointment of Arjuna Mahendran as Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) and of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's role in the bond scam. 

Presenting the NCM before Parliament, MP Dinesh Gunawardena said that the country has no confidence on the Premier following his part in the appointment of Arjuna Mahendran, who is not even a Sri Lankan citizen, as Governor of the Central Bank. 

He reminded that the scandal also forced former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayaka to resign. 

However, Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella countered that the report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the bond scam has concluded that the appointment of Arjuna Mahendran as CBSL Governor was not illegal and there was no link between his foreign nationality and the eventual scam.
