Nearly Rs 533 million paid under Suraksha students insurance scheme

Payouts amounting to nearly Rs 533 million have been disbursed as at June 30 under the Surakasha Students Insurance Scheme, the Education Ministry said today (Jul 11).

Issuing a press release, the Ministry pointed out that around 4.5 million students between the ages of 5 - 21 have registered with the insurance scheme so far.

This insurance scheme is being implemented upon an agreement signed between the Education Ministry and Allianz Insurance Ltd.

Under the scheme, students who have been hospitalized in either private/public hospitals or have fallen victim to an accident will be entitled to an insurance claim of Rs 200,000, the Ministry noted.

A sum of Rs 200,000 and Rs 150,000 will also be granted as compensation upon the demise of a parent and student respectively, the Ministry said adding that Rs 3000 will be granted to a student for a day of hospitalization at a government hospital.

This is in addition to funds being granted for medical expenses seven days prior to being admitted and 14 days after being discharged from hospital.
