The Opposition Leader of the Negombo Municipal Council has been further remanded until July 31 for illegally breaking into a house and assaulting an individual.
The order was issued by the Negombo Magistrate's Court today (Jul 17).
Royce Vijitha Fernando, 53, had been arrested as a chief suspect after a complaint had been filed with the police over this incident on June 23.
He is alleged to have broken into a house belonging to a Chinese national posing as a CID officer. He is also alleged to have assaulted an individual and stolen private property. This includes a vehicle, cash, gemstones, and mobile phones worth Rs 7.5 million.
Five suspects who were previously arrested in connection with this incident have been remanded, police noted.
