Netherlands Embassy establishes help desk for Dutch tourists at BIA

The Netherlands Embassy in Sri Lanka has established a help desk at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to assist Dutch travellers.

The helpdesk has been set-up by joining hands with the Nordic Help desk, Joanne Doornewaard, Netherlands Ambassador to Sri Lanka said on her official Twitter handle. Dutch travellers will be able to make their inquiries at this help desk.

"No fixed opening times but we try to be there at peak hours," the tweet read adding that Dutch tourists will be able to reach the 24/7 hotline at + 31 247 247 247.

The House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament conducted a special parliamentary session on April 23 to express solidarity and sympathy with Sri Lanka over last week's Easter Sunday massacre.

A special feature was that the House observed two minutes of silence in memory of those who had lost their lives in the tragic incidents, while also remaining standing throughout the 20-minute session.

Sri Lankan Amabssador to the Netherlands Adam M.J Sadiq was invited to attend the special proceedings which was presided over by Speaker Khadija Arib.

"We must hope that the perpetrators and organizations behind the attacks will be punished for their actions," Prime Minister Mark Rutte said during the sessions adding that the Netherlands would stand with Sri Lanka and provide assistance when required.

"There is no justificfation for such a hateful act," he emphasised.

The Members of the Dutch Parliament met with the Sri Lankan Ambassador and expressed their condolences following the adjournment of the sittings.

Meanwhile, a silent vigil led by Amsterdam Mayor Femska Halesma was held at the Central Station Square in Amsterdam in memory of the victims of last Sunday's bombings. The vigil was held on April 23 at 7:30 pm with the attendance of people from various nationalities.

The Sri Lankan flag was also lit by means of a giant laser on the facade of the Central Station upon conclusion of the vigil, the Sri Lankan Embassy in the Netherlands said in a press release.
