Cabinet has approved a proposal to construct a 300 MegaWatt (MW) Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Power Plant at Kerawalapitiya.
The Government noted that construction of the plant was a solution to the power crisis that may arise in the country in future.
The new plant will work according to the Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT) business method as an independent energy project through private investment.
Accordingly the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal made by the Minister of Power to select an investor following the international competitive bidding process to complete the project within a period of three years.
