The government has decided to introduce a new Act as a replacement to the Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses Act.
Accordingly, new clauses in line with international standards would be introduced to the proposed new Act while the existing one would be repealed.
Cabinet approval too had been granted to submit the bill before Parliament for approval.
A proposal to this effect had been put forward by Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorale at the cabinet meeting this week.
