The United National Party yesterday decided to appoint Minister Kabir Hashim as the new Chairman of the UNP.
Meanwhile, Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has been appointed as the General Secretary of the party.
Minister Sajith Premadasa will continue to serve as the Deputy Leader of the UNP, while Minister Navin Dissanayake will be appointed as the new National Organiser.
Furthermore, Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has been granted the post of Assistant Leader.
Meanwhile State Minister Harsha De De Silva has been appointed Treasurer, while State Minister Ruwan Wijewardene has been appointed to the post of Deputy General Secretary.
Furthermore State Minister Ajith P Perera will serve as Trade Union Secretary and Minister Harin Fernando is to be appointed Media Secretary.
Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam was quoted by media as saying the appointments were recommended by the Politburo of the United National Party.
The recommendations will be presented to the UNP Working Committee today.
