Major General H.C.P Goonetilleke has been appointed the new Chief of Staff of the Army, local media quoted Military Spokesman Brigadier Roshan Seneviratneas saying.
Major General Goonetilleke succeeds Major General U. A. B Medawela.
Major General Goonetilleke has been decorated with the Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) and awarded the Vishishta Seva Vibushanaya.He holds a Master’s Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from the National Defence University Pakistan.
Major General Renaka Udawatte has been appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Military Spokesman Roshan Seneviratne said.

Sri Lanka today reiterated its rejection of all United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolutions on Sri Lanka including the external evidence gathering mechanism initiated by the OHCHR.
The Minister of Power, Kumara Jayakody, stated that in the future, internationally funded projects, such as power projects, will only be carried out through government-to-government (G2G) agreements and competitive procurement.
