Sri Lanka Railways today (6) commenced trial runs of the new power sets it had imported from China. The trial run commenced from the Ratmalana Railway Station and ended at the Beliatta Railway Station.
Minister of Passenger Transport Management Mahinda Amaraweera was also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, he stated that while public transport services have been stopped due to COVID-19, they have made plans to deploy all nine newly imported power once public transport starts operating as normal.
The nine power sets had been imported from China at a cost of Rs 18 billion. Two other luxury power sets are due to arrive soon, while seven power sets imported from India will also be added to train journeys, he added. The minister also said the new power sets have several air-conditioned carriages.
