Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne assumed office as the Defence Ministry’s Secretary today (Nov 20), the Army Headquarters said in a press release.
The new defence secretary took up office after being welcomed by a guard turnout to the ministry. Religious observances were also followed during the occasion.
Maj. Gen. Gunaratne joined the Army in 1981 and went on to command two military divisions during the LTTE war. He had also served as Sri Lanka’s Deputy Ambassador to Brazil in 2000.
