The new Galle Road has been temporarily closed off due to a protest which is currently underway in the vicinity of the Moratuwa railway station.
Meanwhile, crowds are gathering in Kandy to pledge their support to Parliamentarian Ven Athuraliye Rathana Thera who is staging a hunger strike opposite the Dalada Maligawa temple.
A bus strike was also launched in the Elpitiya, Aluthgama, and Negombo areas since today (Jun 03) morning to pledge their support to the Thera.
Two protests were held in the Nittambuwa and Hatton areas as well while four people are currently engaged in a fast unto death campaign in Vavuniya. A protest march took place in Galle as well.
Ven Rathana Thera had commenced a hunger strike since last Friday demanding the resignation or removal of Minister Rishad Bathiudeen along with Governors Azath Salley and M.L.A.M. Hizbullah.
