Nine persons including eight children have been critically injured in an accident involving a three wheeler in Nawalapitiya, police said.
It is reported that the three-wheeler had tumbled into a canal while taking a turn onto the Nawalapitiya Hapugastalawa main road at around 7:30 am today (Jul 2)
Among the injured were eight students between Grade 1-3 who were between the ages of 7 - 8. They are currently receiving treatment at the Kandy teaching hospital.
Investigations have shown that the accident had occured due to excessive speed and transporting a large number of passengers in the vehicle.
