The government has announced that it will not include North and Eastern provinces under its employment scheme for 100,000 low income people implemented by the Multi Purpose Development Task Force, according to the Home Affairs Ministry.
The circular, issued to all District Secretariats and Divisional Secretariats in North and Eastern provinces from the Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday did not specify the reason behind the decision taken by the Task Force.
“We kindly inform you that the Multipurpose Development Task Force will not consider the Northern and Eastern provinces for at this moment to provide employment to 100,000 low income earners,” the circular said.
The Multi-Purpose Development Task Force was established with the objective of creating a poverty-free Sri Lanka as envisaged in the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s policy statement of “Saubhagyaye Dekma”. Major General (Retd.) Nanda Mallawarachchi is the Director General of the Department of Multi-Purpose Development Task Force.
