President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed security forces to refrain from accompanying journalists during search operations.
This is due to privacy concerns which have been raised during the search operations carried out over the last few weeks.
"Some individuals who are arrested with a few suspicious items during search operations are labelled as terrorists although they do not have any links with such groups," a presidential secretariat spokesman told Times Online.
Footage which invades the privacy of a person had also been captured in the recent past, the spokesman noted adding that the President had then decided to keep away journalists during such operations.
Accordingly, journalists will be allowed to report or broadcast visuals upon conclusion of these search operations after the relevant details have been verified by the defence or security divisions.
