The North-East monsoon is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, bringing heavy downpours in the Northern and Eastern parts of the country, the Meteorological Department said.
In its weather forecast, the Department said some places in the Northern and Eastern provinces and the Polonnaruwa district will receive upto 100 mm (four inches) of rainfall today.
The Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and the Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts will receive rainfall upto 75 mm.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m, the Department said.
Wind speeds in the Central hilly areas, Northern, North-central, Southern and North-western provinces and in the Trincomalee district will range between 40 and 50 kmph, the forecast read.
