Northern Governor Suren Raghavan has instructed that lands surrounding the President's House in Jaffna must be handed over to their rightful owners.
Addressing a meeting at the Tellippalai Divisional Secretariat, the Governor had issued instructions to divide the 62 acres of land in this area into four zones and return them to thier owners.
Former Northern Chief Minister C Vigneswaran claimed that 75 acres of land had been acquired by the government to construct the President's House in Jaffna during the tenure of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
However, Mr. Vigneswaran had stated that President Maithripala Sirisena had pledged to return those lands to the people. He also stated that 60,000 acres of land belonging to Northern residents are still in the possession of the security forces.
