The number of COVID-19 patients identified from the Southern Province has risen to 874 with 39 more patients being identified yesterday (27).
According to Coordinator of the Southern Province COVID-19 Information Centre, Chamara Mahagamage, the largest number of patients has been found from the Galle district, with 490 being identified so far. Matara district has 309 patients while 75 infections have been identified from the Hambantota district.
Mr Mahagamage added that 23 of the 39 new infections detected yesterday were from the Galle district, with 12 being found from Matara and four from Hambantota.
Officials stated that 419 out of the 874 patients in the province have recovered and been discharged from hospital. A total of 4678 persons from 2317 families in the Southern Province are currently in quarantine.
