An individual has been arrested with foreign cigarettes worth Rs 1.4 million at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today (Jul 15), a customs official said.
According to Customs Spokesman Sunil Jayaratne, the suspect, a 42-year old, had arrived from Dubai with 27,500 cigarettes concealed in his luggage.
Meanwhile, two persons were nabbed with foreign cigarettes Rs 3.3 million worth at the BIA last evening, the customs spokesman noted. They had been nabbed with 64,600 cigarettes upon arrival to the country.
Further inquiries into the arrests are currently ongoing.
