An individual has been arrested yesterday (Jul 30) while attempting to smuggle out foreign currency worth Rs 4 million from the country, the customs department said.
Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport had recovered USD 22,000 and 381 Singapore dollars (SGD) from the suspect.
The suspect, a 42-year old had attempted to leave for Singapore on flight UL 214 at the time of the arrest, customs spokesman Sunil Jayaratne noted.
Further investigations are currently underway.
