A live hand grenade and a toy pistol were seized from a person who was travelling on a motorcycle without a number plate along the Kandagoda Road in Hikkaduwa yesterday (Mar 15).
The arrest was carried out by police officers during a mobile inspection patrol after they had searched two individuals who were seen travelling on a suspicious motorcycle.
The suspects have been identified as 29-year olds by the names of Saman Kumara and K. Isuru. They are residents of Monrovia Estate in Rathgama and the Boossa area in Galle respectively.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects have been involved in several crimes across the Habaraduwa, Hikkaduwa, and the Ambalangoda, and the Bentota areas during the recent past.
Accordingly, police believe that the two individuals might have been en route to commit a crime at the time of the arrest.
Police said the suspects will be produced before the Galle Magistrates Court along with the motorcycle, live hand grenade and the toy pistol, today.
