The one-day service for issuing National Identity Card (NIC)'s will resume from Monday, Viyani Gunathilaka, Commissioner General of the Registration of Persons Department told Times Online.
Mr. Gunathilaka noted that the technical glitch in the computer system of the Department which resulted in a brief suspension of the service yesterday (Jul 5) had been rectified.
He also said that Internal and Home Affairs minister Vajira Abeywardena had agreed to allocate the required funds to strengthen security and develop the website.
Special attention would be paid to strengthening cyber security since the computer systems contain a huge database comprising details of the general public, the Commissioner General stressed.
