Only light vehicles will be allowed to travel towards Hatton along the Colombo - Hatton road, after a section of the road had caved-in yesterday (Oct 8), police said.
A section of the traffic lane used by vehicles heading towards Hatton had caved-in near the 62/3 kilometre milepost in Watawala at around 5:30 pm. Accordingly, the remaining traffic lane would be open only for light vehicles, police added.
Heavy vehicles have been advised to use the following alternative routes during this time period ;

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
