The Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today issued an open warrant for the arrest of former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States, Jaliya Wickramasuriya.
The Colombo Fort Magistrate had issued an arrest warrant for Mr Wickramasuriya on November 17 after he failed to appear in court.
He was arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) for allegedly misappropriating funds allocated to purchase a building to house the Sri Lankan Embassy in the US.
He had earlier been released on bail to travel to the US for two months to seek medical treatment. However, he had failed to appear in court on the given date.
