Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa referring to the lost opportunity of defeating the Budget, said he regretted the decision taken by certain Parliamentarians supporting the President to not be present during the second reading of the budget.
The opposition leader made this remark following an event held at the Sri Dharmaloka Viharaya in Matale today (Mar 16).
"There was a chance of defeating the budget. However a large group of MPs supporting the President did not turn up for the vote," he said while referring to the incident as an unfortunate one.
However, he pointed out that four MPs including MP Wasantha Perera chose to ignore the President's decision and had casted their vote against the budget by thinking about the people.
