Over 1,000 kilograms of dried turmeric believed to be smuggled into the country were seized by the Navy in the beach area of Kalpitiya yesterday (25).
“A lorry carrying dried turmeric packed in sacks was apprehended by the Navy personnel”, Navy media spokesperson Captain Indika De Silva said.
The suspect had left the lorry and fled. Police were investigating to find the suspect.
The seized turmeric was handed over to the Kalpitiya police.
