Over 75 percent national schools do not have Principals - Stalin

News

The Ceylon Teachers Union has claimed that out of the 352 national schools 302 schools do not have Principals.

Chairman of the Union Joseph Stalin, in a press release made this remark while citing media reports which quoted the President expressing concern during yesterday's cabinet meeting over the absence of a Principal at Thurstan College.

"Although applications were called in 2018 to fill in the vacancies, the appointments have not been made as of yet" Mr. Stalin said. "As of now all these schools have only acting Principals".

The reason for this delay is because formal appointments were not made to these positions despite applications being called and interviews being held in 2012 and 2015, Mr. Stalin said.

He charged that a mafia comprising politicians and old boys unions of schools were trying to protect those serving as acting principals instead of calling for a proper appointment.

He said it was evident that over 75 percent of national schools faced this dire situation and that it was not only Thurstan College which faces this problem.
