The controversial bond scam will result in the country suffering a staggering loss in excess of Rs 1 trillion over the course of the next 30 years, State Minister of Enterprise Development Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said today.
He said that the fraud came to light as the government existed of two parties and they could express their feelings independently. He added that if a single party was ruling the country, the fraud would not have been revealed.
He said those who criticized the bond issue had never fought against corruption when they were in the government.
“This would be a good lesson for the politicians as well. Politicians would not do this type of thing in the future.Nowhere in the world has such a fraud happened within a short period of 2-3 days” he said.
Speaking about No-Confidence Motion against Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake, he said there are a number of other important things that would happen prior to a No-Confidence Motion and the accused should also take a proper decision which would be important for the country, the government and both the two parties.
