President Maithripala Sirisena said that Sri Lanka cannot forget the cooperation extended by the Pakistani Government for Sri Lanka's development as well as during the civil war in relations to national security. He said Pakistan has always been a steadfast friend of Sri Lanka.
He made these observations speaking at the ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat this morning to welcome the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The President also expressed his deep apapreciation to Pakistan for the support rendered to Sri Lanka in its endeavour to defeat terrorism as well as at the UN Human Rights Council and UN Security Council.
Sri Lanka values its relations with Pakistan and desires to further deepen and broaden it, added the Sri Lankan President and thanked the Prime Minister Sharif for taking prompt action to implement the agreements that were arrived at during his visit to Pakistan in 2015.
Meanwhile, eight Agreements/MoUs in the sectors of Science, technology and innovation cooperation, Scientific and technological cooperation, Health, Exchange of Financial intelligence related to money nlaundering, Culture, Trade, Statistics, Gem and Jewellery were signed between the two countries.
