Pakistan High Commission responds to Indian sleuths' story

News

The following is in response to a  story - "Indian sleuths believe drug money from Pakistan-based cartel may have funded terror attack in Sri Lanka" as it appeared in the Economic Times.

The Pakistan High Commission in Colombo issued the following statement regarding the story

The High Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan categorically rejects the utterly baseless and fictitious claims by the newspaper. Attributing such allegations to Pakistan for involvement in terror attacks in Sri Lanka, is a clear proof of the Indian media’s malicious intent which was already rejected by Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad by issuing a statement on the recent attacks in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan has strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka and expressed solidarity with the government and the brotherly people of Sri Lanka and has offered condolences and sympathies with the families of the victims. Pakistan has also reiterated its support and offered all possible assistance to Sri Lanka in its counter-terrorism measures.

Pakistan has fully supported Sri Lanka’s war on terror in the preceding years and has rendered unconditional support in the form of military hardware and training of the security forces to eliminate terrorism. When Jaffna was on the verge of separation, on the call of the then Sri Lanka President Chandrika Bandaranayake Kumaratunga, the Pakistan’s leadership quickly responded and provided necessary equipment and support to curb the insurgency.

Pakistan is always desirous to maintain excellent relations with Sri Lanka. In the current scenario, such a malicious media campaign only aims to harm the brotherly ties and to damage the goodwill and trust between the two friendly countries.

The High Commission of Pakistan, once again, rejects the story and suggesting that the newspaper should refrain from putting such fabricated stories against a true friend of Sri Lanka.
