News

Project "Prajaashakthi" was initiated by the Rotaract Club of Panadura to be of strength to its fellow members of the community who need it during these desperate times. The main focus was to provide essential food items through a pack of dry rations.

The project was executed from March 30 to April 15 where 100 families were helped.

Each of these families were given a Rs. 1000-worth pack of dry rations which contained 5kg of rice, 1kg of dhal, 1kg of sugar, 1kg of Bombay onions, 1 tin of salmon, 1 packet of salt and 1 packet of chillie powder.

“Through this initiative we helped 100 families whose livelihood by engaging in daily wage jobs had been affected and also who do not receive Samurdhi or any such government assistance or payments,” according to Sanduni Hettigoda, Director Community Service and President-Elect of the Rotaract Club of Panadura.

Members of the Rotaract Club of Panadura helped to identify these 100 families who live in and around the areas of Panadura, Nalluruwa, Wadduwa, Waskaduwa, Kalutara and Horana.

She said all possible precautionary measures were taken throughout this process from collection of donations to buying and delivering of the material until the distribution of these goods to respective families, to ensure the safety of Rotaract members and others who were directly and indirectly involved.
