Parliament will hold a day-long adjournment debate today (21) on the Constitutional Council (CC).
The debate, granted at the request of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), will commence at 11.30am and continue till 7.30pm.
President Maithripala Sirisena, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and other MPs of the UPFA have been strongly critical of the role of the CC, accusing it of political bias, especially with regard to the appointment of judges to the superior courts.
The CC is headed by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
