A Sri Lankan passenger who is resident of Wellawatta area, was arrested by officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) last night at the Bandaranike International Airport (BIA) with four gold pieces weighing 645.5 grams valued at Rs 5.9 million.
The suspect had arrived on a flight from India. The suspect was handed over to the BIA Customs for further action.
Customs stated that the gold was concealed in his trouser pockets. According to the passenger's statements, he hasn't brought the gold from India but another person had handed over the gold to him smuggle them to India.
