The Pavidi Handa organisation has requested President Maithripala Sirsena to grant presidential pardon to Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Gnanasara Thero in keeping with the upcoming Independence Day on February 04.
Convener of the movement Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero had requested the President to grant pardon after considering the services rendered by Gnanasara Thero towards the country and the religion.
The thero made this remark while addressing a press briefing at the Narahenpitiya Abhayaramaya temple today (Jan 10).
He also raised a question on why Gnanasara Thero could not be released while Vijayakala Maheswaran, who had made remarks against the country, could be given a State Ministerial portfolio.
Ananda Thero had also said that he would resort to harsh action if the President respond positively to his demands.
