The Provincial Councils Ministry has decided to amend the Provincial Councils Elections (Amendment) Act in a bid to conduct the provincial polls next year.
Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon said proposals to amend the act would be put forward after Parliament resumes sittings next month.
These amendments would be based on a decision on an electoral system under which the polls should be held.
In addition, a delimitation committee would also be appointed with a mandate to outline the electoral boundaries to conduct the elections.
