The mandamus writ petition filed by the Truth Seekers Movement seeking a court order to conduct the provincial council elections will be heard before the Supreme Court on March 29.
This was announced by the Supreme Court judge bench of Justices Sisira de Aubrew, Prasanna Jayawardana, and Preethi Padman Suresh earlier today (Mar 08).
Notices were issued on the respondents in the petition which included Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya and the members of the Commission who had not attended today's court proceedings since prior notices were not issued on them.
The petitioners comprising nine members of the Truth Seekers Movement had sought a court order to conduct the polls for the Sabaragamuwa, North Eastern, Eastern, Central, Wayamba, and North Central provincial councils since their terms have already ended.
