The Gazette notification declaring as an essential public service work in the petroleum sector was presented to Parliament today by Chief Government whip Minister Gayantha karunatillake.
The Gazette notification makes the supply or distribution of fuel including petroleum products and gas and all service, work, labour of any description whatsoever, necessary or required to be done in connection with the discharge, carriage, landing, storage, delivery and removal of oil or fuel from vessels within any port an s essential public service.
The essential service regulation was declared by President Maithripala Sirisena on Tuesdaynight under the Public Security Ordinance as hindrance to services provided by the state petroleum sector is essential to the life of the community and is likely to be impeded or interrupted if the work is stopped.
