Petroleum strike continues: Public severely inconvenienced

The continuous strike launched by petroleum sector trade unions since midnight yesterday continues this morning. Long queues were seen outside fuel stations since last evening as news of the planned strike was announced. The long lines of vehicles also contributed to traffic jams near fuel stations. 

Long lines of vehicles were seen at fuel stations this morning as well. 

The petroleum trade unions launched the strike over several demands including that the Government reconsider decisions to transfer fuel tanks at the Hambantota Port to a China and the tanks at Trincomalee to India. 

Following are scenes at a fuel station in Matara last night after news of the impending strike was announced.
