Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe has spoken to outgoing Maldivian President Abdullah Yameen and congratulated him on ensuring a free and fair election, the Prime Minister's office said.
The PM during his conversation with Yameen also assured him that he would be welcome in Sri Lanka at any time.
The Prime Minister has also spoken to the newly elected President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and congratulated him on his victory.
The PM's office also said that Nasheed had urged Sri Lankan businessmen to invest more in the Maldives.
An invitation to Wikremesinghe was also extended by Nasheed to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Maldivian President.
