Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has sought a written explanation from State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake before July 21 over his remarks he had allegedly made regarding the Mahasangha during an interview on social media.
Mr Ramanayake had recently made defamatory remarks regarding Bhikkhus, alleging that young priests were being abused at temples.
In addition, Mr. Wickremesinghe in his address to Mr. Ramananayake has said that he vehemently condemns such remarks as not only the Prime Minister but also as the leader of the United National Party (UNP) adding that such remarks were not in line with the party’s ideology.
