The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) seized cigarettes worth around Rs 2 million while it was being transported in a container truck in the vicinity of the clock tower in Pettah yesterday (Jan 31), Police said.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the cigarettes were smuggled from Dubai under the guise of importing spare parts for ships.
The PNB said that it had seized 400,000 cigarettes along with a suspect. Investigations are underway to apprehend the chief suspect in the incident.
