Police bust timber racket in Puliyankulam

The Puliyankulam police have busted an organized timber racket in the Palaivadi area in Puliyankulam. The racketeers were felling 'Burutha' trees inside the Palaivadi forest reserve and transporting them to be sold. 

Based on a tip-off, police conducted a raid yesterday and arrested two suspects along with a consignment of Burutha timber. Police said the seized timber was worth nearly Rs.500, 000.

Police say that suspects had been engaged in the racket for a long period. The suspects, both 42 years of age, are due to be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate's Court.
