The Police Commission has said it intends to inquire into the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)’s inquiry into Kurunegala hospital doctor Mohamed Shafi.
Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandana Wickramaratna had recently issued a letter to the Police Commission confirming that the probe on the doctor would be carried out by the CID alone.
He had referred to a letter sent by the Commission, which he said, had sought to transfer the investigations of the case to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
Nishantha Weerasinghe, Acting Secretary to the Commission, said the letter had sought to investigate the CID’s probe and not to transfer the investigations of the case against the doctor.
Weerasinghe noted that the Police Commission has the power to inquire into the investigations of the CID.
