Police Officers in civvies will be deployed on May 4, to monitor the traffic violations and lane law violations in Colombo city, a senior police officer said.
When a traffic violation is observed by the Police officers, a message will be sent through walkie-talkies to the Colombo Operation Centre and to the other traffic police officers on duty.
As witness supporting the case the officer who took the case or the officer in civvies will be named. Accordingly, offenders will be fined or action will be filed in courts.
Police Headquarters said Ceylon Motor Traders has given 10 private vehicles to implement the special plan in which police officers in civvies will travel around Colombo.
This plan will later be expanded to other areas as well in the future.
