President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (Mar 28) said that moves are afoot to replace the existing khaki uniform for policemen by introducing a new one.
Mr. Sirisena said that the change in uniforms were a part of restructuring the police department in order to build a respectable and efficient police service.
On the same lines he noted that talks are being held with relevant auhtorities on the proposed new uniform.
The President also claimed that he has been able to infuse several changes to the Police Department after it fell under his purview.
He made these remarks while addressing the opening of a new building at the Rathgama police station yesterday.
