Police have launched investigations into the murder of a 56-year old woman at her residence in Yakkala yesterday (Jan 03).
The murder which is believed to have taken place between 07:30 am - 12:30 pm is being probed following a tip-off received by officials of the Yakkala police.
The body of the woman who has been identified by the Police as Shardian Benett Piyaseeli currently lies at the Gampaha hospital.
The motive of the murder has not been revealed yet. However, preliminary investigations by the Police have indicated that the victim's son-in-law may have been involved.
Yakkala Police have currently launched a search operation to arrest the suspect.
Former Speaker and NPP MP Asoka Ranwala was arrested today following a road accident in the Denimulla area of Sapugaskanda last night, police said.
